Twitters Top 9 Most Retweetable Words and Phrases
If your a twitterite then you know the buzz you get when someone retweets one of your posts. If your aim is to plug into the viral potential of twitter and make your twitter posts go viral, then you will want your posts to be retweeted as often as possible. But have you ever wondered how you might get retweeted more often?
Social Traffic Espionage has been walking the halls of twitter for the past year and has put together a list of what we believe are the most retweetable words and phrases. Its amazing what a little espionage can reveal.
The nine most retweetable words and phrases are ;
1. you
2. twitter
3. please
4. retweet
5. post
6. media
7. social
8. free
9. blog
Looking at the list the words and phrases seem pretty obvious. BUT if you watch the twitterfeed you would be amazed how may times these words and phrases are not used. Instead lots of tweeple seem to prefer to use words like going, bored, and back. Not very stimulating are they? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that the tweets containing these words or phrases are unlikely to be retweeted…Which is OK if you don’t want the information in your post to go viral. However most people use twitter because of its viral nature.
For those of you that have taken the time to read this post, here is a bonus twitter tip… To make sure your twitter posts are being seen by the most tweeple possible, the best time of day to leave a post on twitter is around 4pm EST. If you do this on a Friday you will get maximum exposure.

I’ve used YOU frequently as aware that we all look for that. Interestingly, I’ve never asked for an RT and from the look of the words that is what is suggested. I also use FREE when appropriate for a call being shared. I use social media but more often as a hashtag. Does it matter if these are incorporated or hashtagged in some cases?

Hi Melissa
Thanks for your awesome comment.
You will find that some people use hastags more frequently than others its a personal preference. As you probably are aware the purpose of the hastag is to enable easy categorization of tweets for effective future searching. Its a search enhancement…
The theory is that although you can search on an incorporated word like social media and find tweets in which social media is mentioned you get some junk as well. BUT when you use the hastag and seach #social media you get cleaner more efficent seach results.
Hope this helps
