Thanks for your awesome comment. 

You will find that some people use hastags  more frequently than others its a personal preference. As you probably are aware the purpose of the hastag is to enable easy categorization of tweets for effective future searching. Its a search enhancement... 

The theory is that although you can search on an incorporated word like social media and find tweets in which social media is mentioned you get some junk as well. BUT when you use the hastag and seach #social media you get cleaner more efficent seach results.
